Military defense and gay hate crimes

I've never been in support of so-called hate crime laws, for several reasons:

1. They're unnecessary. There are already laws in place that make it a crime to kill, assault, or harass people.

2. They destroy equality under the law by creating groups of "special" victims. Now, rather than justice being blind, things like the race and sexual preference of the victim are considered.

3. They destroy freedom. After all, where do you draw the line at what constitutes a "hate crime"? How do we know that simply expressing disapproval of homosexual acts won't eventually get you thrown into prison?

Hate crime legislation protecting gays is attached to the military spending bill that was just passed this month (I can see the connection there, can't you?).

In spite of proponents' claim that this legislation only addresses acts and not speech, we need only look at Canada and its Human Rights Commission free speech controversies to see what a slippery slope that is.

I just wonder if the black and Hispanic youths who set a 15-year-old white boy on fire a few days ago would be charged with a hate crime.

Considering how the media tried its best to hide the races/ethnicities of the perpetrators, I kinda doubt it.

I totally agree. I have never really understood WHY this particular law is named as a 'hate crime'. I mean that is one of the biggest oxymorons in the world right now. I mean, come on now, all crimes are committed because of either hate or dislike of a person or persons. People who kill or steal or whatever just don't do those things because they like you. So, the term 'hate crime' actually makes no sense whatsoever.

Great post.

The hate crimes laws are also blatantly unconstitutional to say the least. We need to elect ONLY members of Congress who sign a pledge to overturn this legislation and all other unconstitutional laws. There have been cases of gays attacking and/or killing straights, blacks killing whites, Hispanics attacking and/or killing whites, and never have any of them been charged with hate crimes. So where is the equality under the law? Yes you are right, it won't be long before the have a law against hate speech. Every immoral or unconstitutional law that is passed has always become a slippery slope. This will be no different.

All this serves to do is to continue to separate us as a people. We are ALL Americans. (Those of us that are legal citizens, that is)

Hate crime = thought crime. George Orwell was prophetic.

The idea of "special" victims is dangerous in the extreme.

People got used to the idea several years ago when penalties for certain people were increased. For example, shooting a law officer results in a more severe penalty. Yes, the idea seems okay. But why is the murder of a law officer more egregious than murdering the citizen who pays that law officer's salary?

Beware of the establishment of oligarchy!

Like i said elsewhere, that's leftism for you, supply soldiers is the same as elevating homos above every one else.

It proves once again that leftists are the real bigots, passing laws that beating the crap out of those who don't take it up the backside is less equal than beating the crap out of someone that does.

I heard about that poor boy who was set on fire, Karen. How utterly horrible!

Hate crimes are oxymoronic, just as you say. All crimes are hate crimes and to single out special groups as though a crime against them are more horrible than a crime against anyone else shows us just where the far-left is headed. I do know that what I'm about to write sounds as though I'm paranoid, but i believe if the socialists in power actually could manage it, killing a conservative Christian would someday only be a minor offense, if that!

Nancy, welcome! Exactly-- other than hatred and greed, there aren't too many other motivators for committing a crime, are there?

Bishop Gregori, nope, "hate crimes" can only be committed against minorities. Don't you know that only white people can be racist?

Matt, I'm really starting to think that's the whole idea.

Zot, he was. And it's pretty short leap, isn't it?

October 24, 2009 | Registered CommenterKaren Howes

AOW, I never thought of that, but it's true. Personally, I had never opposed tougher penalties for hurting/killing a police officer-- in fact, I always supported the idea of automatic death penalty for cop killers. But I do see what you mean.

MK, they really are. I honestly don't understand their whole thought process... if they even have one.

RaDena, that's the other side of it-- if it's so much more horrible to attack gay man than a straight man, what does that really say about straight men? Does it not say that they aren't as important or as good?

October 24, 2009 | Registered CommenterKaren Howes

Yes, a very short leap. Politically Correct speech is a crude for of Newspeak.

In fact, Political Correctness is a racist/sexist concept. By trying to enact special protections for certain groups of people, the leftists are implying that these groups are inferior and weak enough to need the government's protection. And of course that is not even counting the reverse racism of the whole concept.

Nah...hurting whitey's not hate. It's a reckoning.

October 24, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterDr. Dave

@ Dr. Dave -- You say, hunting whitey is a reckoning, and that may well be the way it is seen. I wonder how it is going to look when whitey gets fed up and fights back? Whitey is fundamentally a whole lot smarter and has more resources, so if he finally decides to fight, it could get very bloody very fast. I think that day is approaching.

The whole concept of hate crimes is fundamentally based on the idea that some people have more value than others, a concept that is both unChristian and unConstitutional. Neither of those, of course, make a lick of difference to the Left. Not that the Left really cares about the people of these victim groups, not at all. It is simply a tool of the Left to use the victim groups to divide society and create social tensions, distrust, envy, and general discord. These are the things the Left feeds upon. A harmonious society would give the Left no entry point at all.

don't forget another group that are treated as if they are special, karen. a group not many give thought to either, they are a group who are called the "handicapped"

October 25, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterThe Griper

Zot, political correctness IS a racist/sexist concept-- not to mention a form of tyranny.

Dr. Dave, yep-- part of it is "payback."

Dr. D, your second paragraph says it all.

Griper, that's true. Most of us probably DON'T think about that... I don't.

youre allowed to hate whites..didnt u know that Karen! Happy Sunday!

October 25, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAngel

i guess what we can say is best said in that song on my site, huh, karen. they are all treated as victims of abuse or as the song says "victicrats". geez how i love that word. lol

October 25, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterThe Griper

"Whitey is fundamentally a whole lot smarter and has more resources, so if he finally decides to fight, it could get very bloody very fast. I think that day is approaching."

Yes he is and it's due to his culture of freedom, it has been so for more than a thousand years. It's something other cultures simply don't seem to get and that is to their own detriment. They seem content at tearing down whitey instead of rising above him.
