Dennis Miller: "No buts"
Saturday, October 17, 2009 |
Karen Howes Dr. Dave, of snarky and satirical conservative blogosphere infamy, sent me a link to this article. It's a must-read written by Dennis Miller on the insanity wrought by moral relativism, using the defense of Roman Polansky by some as an example:
If we don't have unanimity on the rape and sodomy of a 13-year old girl, well, we're never gonna have it, are we? If "but" appears as a fulcrum in a sentence about an occurrence this horrific, it signals a brokenness in the American spirit that even a card carrying, "eyebrow-raised-higher-than-Pelosi's" skeptic like me could never have imagined.
Exactly.

when i see the word but in a sentence, it sends off the warning light in my head that i'm seeing a self-contradictory statement.
read the following to see what i mean;
"yes you are right <B>but no you are not right because..."
Funny thing about "Yes, but..." For a while after my husband's stroke, he kept saying, "I know, but..." Brain damage, of course.
Well said Dennis.
This is the thing about liberals/leftists, you give them enough cover and time and i guarantee you that they'll find justification for the rape of a small baby. Heck, millions upon millions were slaughtered by communism and they still celebrate it, so what's the rape of some kid by one of their movie heroes.
Moral relativism is just a fancy term for 'anything goes.' It is the language that leftists use to justify the tolerance of things that should not be tolerated. They see it as a 'get out of jail free card' in conjunction with political correctness.
I've listened to Miller in various forms for years, but until the other day I'd never read his writing. That piece was incredible. And I'm pretty certain it was just his typical Milleresque collection of observations. He's a keeper.
Griper, exactly. How anyone can possibly justify something so horrible by saying, "but" goes to show we really have no common ground with some of these people. They're truly beyond hope.
AOW, exactly. Leftism is a mental illness. And btw, please know that I'm continuing to pray for you both.
MK, I have no doubt. There literally seems to be no crime, no perversion, that they won't defend.
Zot, that's exactly it-- anything goes.
Dr. Dave, I've never read anything by him either, but he's very good. Thanks for the link.
