Mmm, Mmm, Mm... superintendent defends Obama hymns

Karen Howes Of course he does, despite angry protests from parents of the New Jersey elementary school children who appeared in a YouTube video singing hymns to Obama.
"There was nothing systematic or indoctrinating about this innocent classroom activity," Burlington Township Superintendent of Schools Christopher Manno said during a school board meeting. "There was no intention on the part of the teacher to make any political statement or promote a political agenda."
No, not at all, especially with lyrics like:
Equal work means equal pay
Mmm, mmm, mm!
Barack Hussein Obama
He said that we must take a stand
To make sure everyone gets a chance
Mmm, mmm, mm!
Barack Hussein Obama
He said red, yellow, black or white
All are equal in his sight
Mmm, mmm, mm!
Barack Hussein Obama"
And:
For all your great accomplishments, we all doth say "hooray!"
Hooray, Mr. President! You're number one!
The first black American to lead this great nation!
Hooray, Mr. President we honor your great plans
To make this country's economy number one again!"
No political agenda here, move along. I'm sure this school also had kids singing songs about how awesome and godlike George W. Bush was too, right?
I think it's time to acknowledge that "public" schools in this country are in reality government schools; clearly, they have far more loyalty to the government than they do to the parents of their students.
You see, parents, you don't matter. Your kids belong to the State.

I think what really tells the story here is that the school and their supporters are upset that the event was recorded. Now, while that is clearly wrong, there are hundreds of school programs on YouTube and there are no major issues with them being there. The difference here is that this school got caught indoctrinating the kids. They aren't upset with the indoctrination part, they view that as their role. They're upset that they were caught!
That principle needs to be tarred, feathered and then sent on a one way trip to North Korea!
I recall issues with the internet prior to college. During middle school (in particular), we couldn't publish photos or even names of students without prior approval of their parents or guardians. If a simple name couldn't even go onto the school website, what are the legal ramifications of posting this video?
Beyond that, there's no doubt that this is highly political and is certainly a form of indoctrination. How can they even try to deny it? So preposterous...
Your kids belong to the State...they sure do..hopeychangey!! gah! :)
Matt, I think you're right about them being sorry that they were caught. But there's a legal issue here as well-- it's against the law to videotape kids in schools unless you have written consent from parents. I teach, and during my internship, I was required to record one of my classes to submit for review to my professor. We had to angle the camera in such a way that it went over the heads of the students and didn't capture any faces. Of course the school district is using the breach of security as a distraction to the indoctrination that was clearly taking place.
Zot, so does the superintendent.
Francis, yup, there are two issues here-- the indoctrination and the unauthorized recording and posting of vids of school kids. This vid SHOULD be seen to show evidence of what is taking place, but I do wish the person who posted it on YouTube had blurred out their faces.
Angel, homeschooling is a great alternative. This is of course why lefties hate it and want to make it illegal.
I would be yanking my kids out of that school so fast, and would rally up the other parents to do the same. Losing kids, means losing money. Hit them where it hurts.
I am so happy that we are in the bible belt, in fact, my 7-year-old's teacher doesn't even assign homework on Wednesday, because that is a church night. Cool.
"There was no intention on the part of the teacher to make any political statement or promote a political agenda."
The more i observe leftists/liberals, the more they remind me of muslims. Just today 5 muslims were convicted in a Sydney court of plotting terrorism and yet in the face of overwhelming evidence, their friends and family refused to believe the evidence.
It's like those idiots to simultaneously believe that 9/11 was a plot by the Jews and Christians and yet, a great win for islam. It's like their wiring is screwed up, there is no logic or reason to what they say or believe.
It's the same with leftists like this one, he sings 'all hail obama' and says he doesn't necessarily support obama, he's either a liar or he has a mental condition.
Principles and school personnel have always feared the nancster...hehehe...this would go over like a fart in a spacesuit at our house - last year before the election our daughter went about the hallways in school and started ripping down obama posters - when the other students tried to stop her, all the while questioning, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING THIS FOR?!?" She sweetly replied, "The girl's restroom is out of toilet paper!" I had parents call me and give THUMBS UP to her - one parent said, "I believe she may be my spiritual partner!"
Leticia, this is precisely why I'm in favor of school "choice"-- if schools lost kids and funds for being mediocre, this would be an incentive for them to improve. So naturally, socialist type education bureaucrats are against it. I'm also in favor of giving teachers raises based on their teaching performance instead of how long they've taught in the school system.
MK, I've come to the simple conclusion that leftism is a mental illness. Seriously. What else do you call it when people are as out of touch with reality as they are? They live in their own little eutopian fantasy land.
Nancz, I don't know your daughter, but I like her! :-) Just guessing here, but I doubt that there were McCain posters up as well...
