Benevolent bureauocracy

Those who talk about the greed of Big Bad Corporations, and believe that government intervention is the answer make a very foolish assumption:

That government has the best interest of the people at heart.

History shows pretty consistently that the state is rarely so altruistic; in fact, hundreds of millions of people in the 20th century alone were killed by their own governments. You can't say that about those Evil Greedy Rich Bastards who provide products and jobs and actually stimulate the economy.

So why, pray tell, should we put more faith in government than in private industry? What makes it any more trustworthy?

Just askin'.

Great point. I would only add that to get filthy rich, the evil corporation has to actually produce a good or service that is worth something. The government takes and takes, and provides little to nothing in return.

I have no clue why many people think that corporations are evil, but no totalitarian leader has ever come to power without claiming to hold the best interest of the people at heart (the exception to this are violent coups like Lenin's Bolshevik revolution).

The other thing the most of us don't know is that big corporations are actually big fans of big government, especially big, leftist government. Leftists love to rail about big corporations and profits and all that, however if you look hard enough, you'll see that those big corporations are actually quite into leftist ideology, just look at how many of them are going green and/or sustainable. You'd be very surprised at how many of them are into pushing the green ideology, recycling and badgering people into following the green line.

The only business that we conservatives ought to support is small business, as in mums and dads, family-run businesses and the like, supporting big business is a waste of time. They don't want our support and they certainly won't return the favor.

I don't believe all big busiiness is in cahoots with the government as MK does. It is true if they belong to a Union, but when they don't the left goes after them. We all know how badly they want to take Wal Mart down! No, it's corporations that are unionized that love the leftist government and it is the greed of our corrupt politicians in office, whether they are Democrats or Republicans that we need to be worried about. They must be booted out of office and we Americans need to do our homework before we vote. If everyone did that we wouldn't be in this mess.

Matt, exactly-- little to nothing we don't pay for ourselves via taxes, anyway. So many of us still don't understand that nothing the government provides is "free."

Zot, you're absolutely right-- what tyrant ever came to power by saying, "I'll run every aspect of your lives and imprison/kill you if you resist me"?

MK, that's a good point. Often times, they're in cahoots. I look at it this way: big business CAN be dangerous, but doesn't have to be; big government always is.

RaDena, I honestly HATE WalMart because of their business practices. But I believe the customers should stop shopping there, and NOT that the government should shut them down.

Yeah, you are right, it's not all of them that love big government, but out here unfortunately, a lot of them do.

I do think that the focus for conservative politicians should be on small business, if they are unhindered the rest i think will follow. Small business is the back bone of the economy, at least it used to be in Australia.
